This was a new event to the dart calendar and drew 34 starters, not bad considering the Legends and Perth Aboriginal Darts Carnival were on the same day.

The players were sorted into two groups of 8 and two groups of 9 and played on 2 boards each under the Round Robin format. The cut was to 16, so the first four in each group made it to the last 16.

The 16 that Qualified then progressed to play the best of 9 x 501 to get to the ¼ Finals where they then played the best of 11 x 501 to find the Semi Finalists.

The Semi Finals were played as 7 Sets best of 5 x 501. The Grand Final was to be played as 9 Sets best of 5 x 501 but due to the lateness of the day & prior venue commitments this was by mutual agreement changed to best of 3 x 501 each set.

The Round of 16 results were:

Peter Castle lost to Kyle Anderson 1 to 5

Howard Jones lost to Norm Anderson 3 to 5 Mark Dorotich lost to Kim Lewis 1 to 5 Doro could not continue to run the event & then not peg 40 against a great player like Kim

Beau Anderson beat Paul Ramsden 5 to 3 Paul Suhacjek lost to Brad Austen 2 to 5 Paul was 2 up until Brad came home well to win. Lawrence Ryder beat Eddie Dryden 5 to 1

Ossie Ford lost to Kerry Whear 4 to 5 The spectators enjoyed this great battle. Lindsay

Haji Ali beat Denis Parr 5 to 3

The Quarter Finals

Kyle Anderson (25-84) lost to Norm Anderson (25.00) 4 legs to 6 - Norm played a very good game against Kyle who could not put the peg away when he needed to.

Kim Lewis (30-72) beat Beau Anderson (29-66) 6 legs to 4 - This was a great game and produced the averages which reflected this. Beau was leading 4 legs to 3 until Kim produced legs of 15 - 14 & 14 darts to take the match away from Beau.

Brad Austen (26-62) beat Lawrence Ryder (27-68) 6 legs to 3 - Lawrence was unable to peg when it really mattered, Brad was steady throughout and finished when it counted.

Kerry Whear (28.89) lost to Lindsay Haji Ali (28-08) 3 legs to 6 - Lindsay produced the goods early and Kerry had no answer and was down 5 nil.

Kerry did bounce back to take the next 3 legs and but some pressure on Lindsay who then destroyed any hopes of a win with a great 15 dart leg to win.

The Semi Finals

Norm Anderson (24-22) lost to Kim Lewis (25-19) 4 Sets to Nil - Norm was very stiff to have that sort of score line against him. The Sets went (1-3, 2-3, 2-3, 2-3).

It was a tough old slog but Kim played the steadier of the two and fully deserved his place in the Grand Final.

Brad Austen (27-62) beat Lindsay Haji Ali (26-04) 4 sets to 3 - This was a great contest throughout Lindsay was struggling to maintain his form but battled on well. Brad steamrolled the last set 3 nil to get to the Grand Final. The Sets went (3-2, 1-3, 3-2, 2-3, 3-1, 1-3, 3-0). Tiredness got Lindsay but Brad played a great last set to progress to the Grand Final.

Wayne WyattThe Grand Final

As stated previously this was amended by mutual agreement to be 9 Sets best of 3 x 501 due to the late finish and prior venue commitments.

It was worth the wait as it went all the way and provided some great darts.

Kim Lewis (28-03) beat Brad Austen (26-14) 5 Sets to 4 - Kim was down 2 Sets to 4 until he produced a great burst to take the next 3 Sets and Victory. One leg produced back to back 180's. When he is on song Kimbo is a hard man to beat.

The Sets went (0-2, 2-1, 0-2, 2-0, 0-2, 1-2, 2-0, 2-0, 2-0).

Wyatt TransportThe best 2 players were there at the end of the day and produced the goods. Brad could not stop Kim once he got going and missing a couple of vital pegs did not help. Great darts by all and a fitting end for the very first - Wyatt Transport Open Mens Singles.

Most 180's: Kim Lewis with 12

Highest Peg Non-Qualifer: Matt Clifford 114

Highest Peg Main Event: Norm Anderson 140

A total of 60 x 180's were thrown on the day.

A total of 18 x 100 + Pegs were thrown on the day.

Our thanks go to Wayne Wyatt for his sponsorship of the event; Wayne tells me he has already put aside $2000 for next year's event. This with other sponsorship will take next year's prize fund to a tidy amount in excess of $3000.

Our Thanks also go to Posters Tavern & Staff - Fuel Technologies - Ron Fenton - James Imray - S.M Building - "Thick as a Brick: bricklayers for the sponsorship and assistance.

Not a bad effort first up, lessons have been learnt and will be adjusted for next year's event. Look forward to seeing you all at Posters Tavern in November 2008.
